The tragic story of Joseph Plunkett and Grace Gifford set against the Easter Rising in Dublin 1916.
Almost seven years since this historical masterpiece made its Grand Opera House debut, Blood Upon the Rose returns to Belfast to tell the tragic love story of Joseph and Grace. Their courtship, marriage in Kilmainham Gaol and his execution the following morning are brought to life in this compelling and absorbing musical drama.
Joseph’s part in the rising features prominently in this stage production, also his relationship with Pearse, McDonagh, Clarke, Connolly and other leaders of the rebellion.
Plunkett's marriage to Grace in a dark candle-lit chapel the night before his execution touched the hearts of a nation coming to terms with the aftermath of this momentous event in Irish history.
This production has toured the UK and Ireland, and is also set for the USA.
