Following the enormous success of The Barber of Seville in February, Lyric Opera Ireland and the Grand Opera House partner once again, along with the Ulster Orchestra, for two special and extraordinary operatic concerts in May 2027.
Passion and Betrayal is curated by Lyric Opera’s Artistic Director, Vivian J. Coates, bringing together some of the most sublime arias, duets and ensembles from the world of Italian opera. It will be a glorious feast of music from the pens of Italy’s most cherished composers, including Verdi, Bellini, Puccini, Donizetti and Rossini.
The exciting young Irish conductor, Killian Farrell, who has taken Europe and Asia by storm will return to conduct the Ulster Orchestra and who has become conductor designate for the Nürnberg Opera 2027/2028 Season.
Among the selection of operas featured are Rigoletto, Don Pasquale, Turandot, Don Carlo, Il Trovatore with extended scenes from La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor and Andrea Chenier. The Ulster Orchestra will shine with orchestral items from Cavelleria rusticana, Macbeth, Atilla and William Tell Overture.
This will be a semi-staged production and artists from home and around the globe will complete this magical night at the opera. This is the perfect way for those entering into the amazing and enthralling world of Italian opera for the first time. You will definitely not be disappointed.
