An unmissable show created especially for the Grand Opera House by Melissa Hamilton; Northern Ireland’s very own globally celebrated Royal Ballet Principal Ballerina.
With an illustrious professional performing career spanning two decades with The Royal Ballet, at London’s Royal Opera House, and on the most prestigious stages worldwide, Melissa returns to her home stage following the Grand Ballet Gala’s sell-out success at the Grand Opera House in 2024.
Melissa is joined by esteemed Royal Ballet dance artists including fellow Principal dancer Ryoichi Hirano of Japan. Also joining the Gala from the Royal Ballet are Fabrizzio Ulloa, Alecsia Lazarescu, and William Gyves, who will feature alongside established stars of the international ballet world, including Tatiana Melnik, Principal of Hungarian National Ballet and Motomi Kiyota, First Soloist of Hungarian National Ballet. There will also be the critically acclaimed international contemporary guest artists, James Pett and Travis Clausen-Knight and an exciting group piece from the Polish National Ballet Junior Company.
Produced by Hamilton Christou Productions, Melissa Hamilton’s Grand Ballet Gala showcases a new selection of excerpts from beloved ballet classics including the Pas de Deux from Le Corsaire. This show-stopping duet is one of the most famous in all ballet repertoire and remains an audience favourite. Also featured is the celebrated gala piece Esmeralda Pas de Deux from La Esmeralda, a beloved ballet which draws its inspiration from Victor Hugo’s novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
Beyond classics, audiences can expect breathtaking and innovative modern contemporary works from two of the greatest choreographers of our generation, Sir Wayne McGregor and Christopher Wheeldon, within the packed programme. There will also be an exciting piece, Barre, which is a conceptual collaboration between Andrew Margetson and Melissa Hamilton. Originally created for screen as a 2026 dance film on Melissa Hamilton, directed by the multi-award-winning Margetson, Barre has been reimagined for stage.
Finally, Melissa Hamilton is delighted to present the world premiere of a new work, created especially for the 2026 Grand Ballet Gala, a highly anticipated first for Northern Ireland audiences. This exciting addition makes the programme an unmissable event for ballet enthusiasts.
