Lana is a single mother of 12-year-old Libby. Lana struggles with the cost of living, inflation and the rising price of Prosecco, whilst trying to survive on Universal Credit.
She can’t even afford a night out. So, every Thursday evening she puts on a nice dress, high heels, does her make-up and has a drink by herself in her kitchen. She plays her mother’s music from the 1950s and 60s, the soundtrack of her childhood. She gets the shock of her life when one Thursday night Elvis appears - and keeps coming back every Thursday. Is he real, or just a figment of her imagination? Or did her father - an Elvis fanatic - send her an impersonator?
Music features strongly in the play with Lana singing some of the greatest female songs of the 50s and 60s including, Doris Troy (Go Now), Ketty Lester (Love Letters), Etta James (I’d Rather Go Blind), Aretha Franklin (Respect), Ronettes (Be My Baby), Dinah Washington (Cry Me A River), to name but a few. And, of course, Elvis sings all his greatest hits. When Elvis and Lana duet the Grand Opera House will be rocking like never before!
Lana’s struggle with relentless poverty brings her to the point where she realises she needs to change her life. But what can she do? Elvis has an idea that just might be the idea that changes Lana’s life forever…
