European Heritage Open Day 2019
Each year hundreds of properties open their doors and many organisations put on events for FREE across Northern Ireland as part of European Heritage Open Days (EHOD). On Saturday 14 September the Grand Opera House will be throwing open the doors of its beautiful building to give guided tours around the auditorium. This will be one of the last chances you will have to tour the builiding before our restoration project, until we re-open in 2020.
In 1895 theatre architect Frank Matcham bestowed on Belfast one of his most imaginative and opulent creations. The Grand Opera House is one of Belfast’s most iconic buildings, the city’s foremost cultural asset, and the only remaining Victorian theatre in Northern Ireland. The Theatre was the first building in Belfast to gain Grade A listed status, and features the city’s richest and most splendid interior. Today the Theatre presents an outstanding programme of musicals, plays, ballets, opera, dance and family shows, as well as one of the UK and Ireland’s most successful and historic pantomimes.
