The Grand Opera House Summer Youth Project returns for its eighth year, with The Wizard of Oz. The project runs for two weeks from 15-29 July, and is open to young people aged 10 to 18.

The ethos of the project is to provide young people from all backgrounds from across Northern Ireland with the opportunity to perform on Northern Ireland’s largest and oldest stage, and learn about the skills and discipline required to be part of the performing arts industry.

The project is Northern Ireland’s largest youth theatre production. Its 230 young actors will rehearse for 10 days before giving four public performances on the magnificent Grand Opera House stage. The project is an exciting and fun opportunity for young people to work in a professional Theatre environment.

A limited number of bursaries are available to take part in the project; further information will be available after the audition process.

Auditions will take place on Sunday 18 February at the Grand Opera House. Call back auditions for the role of Dorothy will be on Saturday 10 March. Call back auditions for all other roles will be on Sunday 11 March.

Age guidance
The role of Dorothy is open to all girls aged 13 years and over.

Performance Licences
All participants of legal school age are required by law to have a performance licence to be part of the project. If this is applicable to you please complete Section 2 of the Registration Form (link below), to help us with the licence application process.

What will happen at the Auditions?
Once you have registered, you will receive information about what you need to prepare in advance for your audition. On the day, you will sing an extract of a song from the show and learn some choreography. Due to the short timeframe of the project, it is important that participants can learn and retain information quickly.

Youth Tech Crew
During the summer youth project there is an opportunity for young people aged 16 to 18 to be a member of our youth tech crew. If you would like to part of this team please download our Tech Crew Application form here. Please return the registration form by Friday 23 March 2018.

Interviews for the technical team will take place after the cast auditions are completed. The cost to be a member of the youth tech team is £195 per person.
