The Grand Opera House is delighted to present its first ever Family Festival from Tuesday 4 – Thursday 6 July. The Festival has a wide range of activities for children and young people and their families. As well as a wide range  of workshops, the building will come alive with circus performers, face painters, balloon modellers, a treasure hunt as well as a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of Northern Ireland’s oldest Theatre.


All day in the Theatre Foyer
The Grand Opera House will become a hive of activity with family entertainment such as face painting, circus performers, balloon modellers and colouring in stations! Please note, daily activities may vary.

Backstage Tours
Get exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into daily life in Northern Ireland’s Premier Theatre and find out about its history. Includes a treasure hunt and a chance for juniors to try their hand as a Lighting & Sound Engineer on stage!
Times: 10am, 11.30am, 1.00pm, 2.30pm | Duration: 1hr 15m | Price: £4 per person

Street Dance Workshop
Prepare yourself for a high energy and upbeat morning. Learn the routine to a current pop hit! 
Tues: 10am - 11am, Weds 10am - 11am and 11.15am - 12.15pm (Ages 6 - 10) Thurs 10am - 12pm (Ages 11 - 16) Price: £5 per person.

Paper Marbling Workshop (Tuesday and Thursday Only)
Marbling is the art of printing multi-colored swirled or stone-like patterns on paper or fabric. The patterns are formed by first floating the colors on the surface of a liquid, and then laying the paper or fabric onto the colors to absorb them. Marbling is sometimes still called by its original Turkish name, ebrû - and is still a very popular artform despite having existed for hundreds and hundreds of years. Suitable for ages 10+

Storytelling (Tuesday and Wednesday Only)
Join Young at Art's storyteller for a wordy adventure. A fun, interactive and lively session exploring the world of stories. Suitable for ages 3 – 8. 
Times: 11am, 11.30am, 12.10pm & 12.40pm | Duration: 20m | Price: £4

Drama Workshop (Wednesday and Thursday only)
Tick Tock, Tick Tock - Create your own whistle-stop version of Peter Pan in 2 hours! Suitable for ages 6-10.
Time: 1pm - 3pm | Price: £5 per person

Clayrazy & Lego Workshop (Wednesday and Thursday only)
Unleash your creative side using fun air-drying clay! Become a master builder and make your own model to take home with you, or use Lego™ bricks to build specially designed models in a fun and interactive way. A fun, creative workshop for young children. Clayrazy suitable for ages 3+. Lego® suitable for ages 5+.

iPad Animation Workshop
A great opportunity for your young person to let their imagination run riot! Participants will turn still images into beautiful and colourful sequences and learn more about storytelling through animation.   Suitable for ages 9 – 14.
Time: 2pm | Duration: 2hrs | Price: £13.50

Tea with Tinkerbell and Peter Pan
Escape to Neverland, enjoy tea and a treat with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell and help spread the ‘fairy dust’ just  in readiness for pantomime. Please notify box office of any special dietary requirements. Suitable for all ages.
Time: 11am - 1pm & 2pm – 4pm | Price: £8 per adult/£5 per child


Storytelling with The Weatherbies
Join The Weatherbies storyteller for a wordy adventure! A fun, interactive and lively session exploring the world of Sammy Sun, Rosie Rainbow and their friends! Suitable for ages 3 - 8.
